　　由Peter Atkins等教授编著的Phvsical Chemistry是国外优秀的物理化学教材之一，被国内一些高等学校用作物理化学课程的教学参考书。随着近年来“双语”教学工作的开展，部分高等学校相继在物理化学课程的“双语”教学中使用了该教材，深受读者欢迎。
　　该教材自初版以来，作者不断地对其进行补充和修订，平均每四年再版一次，本书是第七版(2002年出版)。
